Pictured above: selected scenes gratefully observed from simply looking upward and outward from a backyard perch or while out on a longer walk… and sometimes from unexpected discoveries made far from home. Where ever these discoveries may be, it is the time that is spent there that matters most. If it cannot be shared in the moment, the camera is a witness and a friend. To the patient and watchful mind, time can slow down long enough to meet with opportunity and respond to the call of the lesser-traveled road, trail, or of some long forgotten place—and provide a lasting memory of the lay of the land and water and capture unforeseen moments under changing skies that bend, fold, push, pull and stretch all the light that the beholder is willing to faithfully hope and wait for—by day or by night. Many places pictured here were found within a beautiful and fictionally-named place called California, and some places further still—out in the immense and starkly exquisite American West, well beyond the next inexhaustible horizon, in the great and welcoming backyard of the imagination.
